Post-Operative

Home Instructions

Immediately after surgery:

You will wake up in the recovery room. The incision will be covered with a Band-Aid advance healing gel strip. It is normal to feel tired and sore for the next 2-3 days. It is normal to feel that the breast implants are not part of your body. It takes 2-3 weeks for your breast implants to soften and feel more natural.

You will be amazed how good you feel within 1 hour after the procedure. Before you leave the surgery center you will perform your overhead arm lifts. These exercises should be continued 5 times every hour when awake for 5 days.

Daily Activities:

We want you to resume low level activities of daily living when you awake from your 2 hour nap after returning home. You will take a long hot shower and do your normal routine. This includes raising your arms above your head, brushing your hair and teeth. We encourage you to resume these activities immediately and most of our patients are very surprised that they get back to these activities quite easily.

We will want you to plan on going out to dinner the night of your surgery.

That being said, if you are feeling good please, remember you just had a surgical procedure and we still recommend taking things slowly and getting lots of rest. Watching movies/ television, reading and limited excursions for shopping are all fine but, avoid cleaning your house, working out or going out all day for the first 3 days, as you will tend to wear yourself out and feel the effects the next day.

Avoid any activity that causes pain or discomfort.

A light diet is best for the day of surgery. Begin with liquids and progress to soup or Jell-O initially. If you feel like advancing you diet to regular foods - that is fine! (It is recommended to avoid high fat foods and dairy products.)

You may shower when you awake from your nap the same day. When showering leave the bandaid gel strip in place - it wil remain for 3 weeks.

Work may be resumed in 1-3 days (depending on how you feel).
